Pakistan on Wednesday received first-ever shipment of crude oil from the United States. The vessel MT Pegasus delivered 1 million barrels of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude, signalling a significant strengthening of Pakistan-US economic ties.

The tanker completed its transoceanic voyage from Houston, Texas, arriving at Cnergyico’s Single Point Mooring (SPM) facility in Hub, Balochistan. This delivery fulfils the trade agreement finalised by both nations on July 31, 2025.

MT Pegasus is not just the first US crude carrier to reach Pakistan—it is also the largest oil tanker ever to dock at a Pakistani port. This underscores the country’s growing capacity to handle major energy imports and enhances its energy security.

The import was facilitated by Cnergyico Puma, a leading player in Pakistan’s downstream energy market. The company has already announced plans for a second US crude oil cargo in mid-November, with a third shipment anticipated for 2026.

The successful delivery marks a pivotal chapter in Pakistan-US relations. Following the agreement’s signing, US President Donald Trump announced the partnership on his Truth Social account, stating the two countries would “work together on developing their massive Oil Reserves.”

According to an official statement from Pakistan’s Ministry of Finance, the deal aims to boost bilateral trade, improve market access, and attract foreign investment. Key components include reducing tariffs on Pakistani exports to the US and enhancing cooperation in strategic sectors such as energy, minerals, and information technology.
