Export of non-textile products grew marginally by 1.16 per cent between July-May 2014 period of the outgoing fiscal year from a year ago.
In absolute terms, export of non-textile products reached $10.49 billion in the period under review compared with $10.37bn in the corresponding period of last year.
Exports from non-textile sectors witnessed a decline in the past few months mainly because of energy shortages.
On a demand from major export industries, the government has announced a subsidy package for nine value-added non-textile sectors. These include leather manufacturers, footwear, sports goods, surgical, engineering goods, furniture, meat and meat products, fish products and cutlery.
Commerce Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan believed that the support will accelerate exports from these value-added sectors.
