Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, and other senior officials died in a helicopter crash on Sunday.
They were returning from an inauguration ceremony of a dam on Iran’s border with Azerbaijan when the helicopter crashed in mountainous terrain amid heavy fog in the Varzaqan region of East Azerbaijan province.
East Azerbaijan Province’s Governor Malek Rahmati and Mehdi Mousavi, the head of Raisi’s guard team, were also on board, according to IRNA.
A large-scale search and rescue operation was launched in the fog-shrouded mountain area. The wreckage was located on Monday morning.
