Epic Games has publicly rejected a bizarre conspiracy theory claiming that Jeffrey Epstein was still alive and playing Fortnite.
The rumor gained attention on social media after users linked newly released Epstein-related documents to an online gaming account. As speculation spread, Epic Games stepped in to clarify the facts.
According to the company, the claim suggested that Epstein, who died in prison in 2019, had remained active in Fortnite under the username “littlestjeff1.” Some users pointed to an email confirmation showing a purchase of V-Bucks, Fortnite’s in-game currency.
Online sleuths later discovered a Fortnite account with the same username. The account showed recent activity, which fueled further speculation and conspiracy theories.
Epic Games quickly denied any connection. The company stated that the Fortnite account was not linked to any of Epstein’s known or verified email addresses. Officials explained that the situation involved a user who changed their in-game name to mislead others.
The company emphasized that username changes are common in Fortnite. Epic described the incident as a clear case of trolling rather than evidence of wrongdoing.
Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney also addressed the rumor directly. In a public post, he dismissed the claim and reinforced the company’s explanation. He stressed that there was no factual basis for the theory.
The incident highlights how misinformation can spread rapidly online. When fragments of unrelated information appear together, they can create false narratives that gain traction quickly.
Epic Games urged players and social media users to rely on verified sources and official statements. The company warned against drawing conclusions from usernames or unconfirmed online claims.
