In a significant political statement, tech mogul Elon Musk endorsed former US President Donald Trump, linking his victory to preserving “freedom and meritocracy” in America. “I have never been materially active in politics before, but this time, I believe civilization as we know it is at stake. If we want to preserve freedom and a meritocracy in America, Trump must win,” Musk expressed in a post on X.

Musk’s endorsement came after he was lauded on X for his ability to synthesize complex information. He countered a user who accused him of spreading misinformation and aligning with the “MAGA cult,” referring to Trump’s “Make America Great Again” campaign slogan.

The Tesla CEO’s initial public support for Trump followed an incident at a Pennsylvania rally where Trump was targeted in an assassination attempt but only suffered a minor injury. “I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery. America hasn’t had a candidate this resilient since Theodore Roosevelt,” Musk stated, sharing a video of Trump defiantly raising his fist post-incident.

Musk has consistently supported Trump’s re-election efforts, from expressing a desire to serve in Trump’s cabinet to hosting an exclusive interview with him on X, even after the platform previously banned Trump for inciting violence on January 6.

Moreover, Musk recently criticized US Vice President Kamala Harris, sharing an AI-generated image and accusing her of harbouring authoritarian ambitions in response to her critique of Trump’s authoritarian statements.

Musk previously supported Joe Biden in the 2020 US Presidential Election and mentioned working closely with the Obama administration and voting for Hillary Clinton in 2016.
