Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla, shared his views on reducing carbon emissions to preserve the planet. He emphasized the importance of a balanced approach towards fossil fuels, particularly oil and natural gas, especially in the medium term.
The context of Musk’s statements follows the recent COP28 climate summit, where representatives from nearly 200 countries agreed to start reducing global fossil fuel consumption.
The decision marks a significant move towards the end of the oil age. However, Musk suggested that climate change alarms might be exaggerated in the short term. He expressed concern that the environmental movement’s intensity might cause people to lose faith in the future.
Identifying himself as an environmentalist, Musk acknowledged the critical need for industries to reduce their carbon footprint eventually. He stressed that the billions of tons of carbon released into the atmosphere due to burning fossil fuels must be curbed.
Musk advised against demonizing oil and gas in the medium term, indicating a more gradual shift away from these energy sources. Musk shared these insights while speaking in Rome at an event organized by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s right-wing political party.
