The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has suspended the results announcement for 10 National Assembly and 16 provincial assembly seats following challenges by the defeated candidates.
Specifically, Returning Officers (ROs) for NA-15 Mansehra, NA-46 Islamabad-I, NA-47 Islamabad-II, and NA-48 Islamabad-III, among others, have been instructed to withhold the results. This directive also applies to NA-55 Rawalpindi, NA-49 and NA-50 Attock, and NA-65, NA-63, and NA-28, where the outcomes have been scrutinised.
Furthermore, the unsuccessful candidates challenge the provincial assembly seat results for PP-11, PP-14, PP-16, PP-20, PP-31, PP-33, and PP-59.
This situation has set the stage for intense legal battles in the coming days, particularly as several general election 2024 outcomes favouring PML-N candidates are contested in high courts on allegations of electoral manipulation.
Candidates affiliated with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), contesting as independents, have petitioned the Lahore High Court (LHC) to contest the results of PP-164 and NA-118, where Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shehbaz were declared winners.
In one of the petitions, independent candidate Yousuf Mio, who stood against the PML-N president, alleged that the returning officer denied him entry into the office, highlighting procedural concerns.
