BARKHAN, Balochistan: Rakni Deputy Superintendent of Police Mureed Bugti was killed in an armed attack in Barkhan district on Tuesday, July 28, police said.
Initial reports differed over how the attack unfolded. Armed men abducted Bugti and two police personnel from the Khata Chowki area.
The initial report said the assailants killed Bugti several hours later but released the other two officers.
Aaj English published a different police account. It said unidentified gunmen opened fire on a police vehicle near the Khana checkpost, killing Bugti and injuring a constable.
The injured officer was taken to a hospital for treatment, according to the report.

Police and other law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area and launched a search operation. Authorities were investigating the conflicting circumstances and trying to identify the assailants.
