Dr. Dre is serious about competing in the 2028 Olympic Games, possibly inspired by Snoop Dogg’s involvement in Paris. Although Dre made his name in music, he’s now aiming for a spot at the Los Angeles Olympics.
Viewers likely noticed Snoop Dogg at the Paris Games, where he was paid by NBC to promote their coverage by participating in various events. Dre, however, plans to go beyond attending he wants to compete.
Known as Andre Romell Young, Dre took part in the Paris closing ceremony, where the hosting duties were officially passed to Los Angeles for 2028. Performing alongside Snoop, Dre found himself inspired.
At 59, Dre is a passionate archer and hopes to join Team USA’s archery squad for the Los Angeles Olympics. “I’m trying to try out for the Olympics in 2028,” he revealed, adding, “Archery. I’m dead serious. Yup.”
Reflecting on his love for the sport, Dre shared, “I started playing with archery in junior high. I stopped for a while, but my son bought me a setup. I have it in my backyard, and I heard the Olympic qualifying distance is 77 feet. I practice at 90. Wouldn’t that be interesting?”
The USA took bronze in mixed team archery in Paris, so qualifying won’t be easy, especially with South Korea dominating the sport. Dre took up archery as a hobby a few years ago, with a clip of him teaching Big Boy how to shoot arrows going viral.
While the idea of Dre competing in the Olympics in his hometown of Los Angeles is exciting, he faces significant challenges in making this dream a reality.
