DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Gunmen killed two rescue workers in an ambulance attack after Saturday’s checkpost bombing in Darazinda, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as per security sources.
The ambulance was carrying people wounded in the earlier explosion when the attackers opened fire. Security forces continued an operation against militants in the area.
Earlier, an explosives-laden vehicle struck the Aman Mela anti-smuggling checkpost on the Dera Ismail Khan–Quetta Road. Initial accounts put the blast toll at at least 12 dead.
Regional Police Officer Ghulam Mubashir reported 35 injuries and said authorities had referred 25 patients to the District Headquarters Hospital. Some of the wounded remained in critical condition.
Accounts of the victims’ identities and casualty totals differed. The ambulance deaths concern a separate attack and have not been combined with the bombing toll here.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the bombing and expressed condolences to the bereaved families. He pledged to continue efforts to eliminate terrorism.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also condemned the attack. He expressed sympathy for the victims’ families and described Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as being on the frontline against terrorism.
