WASHINGTON: Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei is set to have a private dinner with President Donald Trump at the White House on Sunday. It will be their first one-on-one meeting.
Trump invited Amodei after a scheduling conflict kept him from Thursday’s state dinner for Chinese President Xi Jinping. A source familiar with the arrangements confirmed the invitation to CNBC.
The White House said Trump remained focused on US leadership in artificial intelligence and consumer protection. “America will lead the world in Super Intelligence,” an official said.
Amodei and the administration have disagreed publicly over AI policy. Earlier this month, he called for slower development of advanced models and greater government oversight.

Trump then criticised the proposal. Meanwhile, Anthropic has challenged restrictions imposed after talks with the Department of Defence broke down.
The dispute centred on permitted military uses of its models. Anthropic opposed using its technology for fully autonomous weapons or domestic mass surveillance.
On Friday, a federal appeals court panel rejected Anthropic’s challenge to its designation as a supply-chain risk. As a result, the government restrictions remain in place.
Relations with other parts of the administration have been less contentious. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick recently said, “We trust Anthropic.”

White House science and technology policy director Michael Kratsios has also described contacts with the company as being in a good cadence.
