KANSAS CITY: Colombia beat Ghana 1-0 in the FIFA World Cup Round of 32 on Friday to reach the Round of 16.
Jhon Arias scored the only goal in the 14th minute at Arrowhead Stadium after substitute Luis Suarez delivered the cross.
Colombia coach Nestor Lorenzo had sent on Suarez after forward Jhon Cordoba appeared to suffer a groin injury early in the match.
The change quickly gave Colombia the decisive moment, leaving Ghana chasing the game. Ghana goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi made several saves to keep his team in contention.
Colombia also created late chances, with Daniel Munoz seeing an effort ruled out and Luis Diaz missing the target.

Ghana struggled in attack and failed to register a shot during the match. Colombia will face Switzerland in the Round of 16 in Vancouver on Tuesday. Ghana exited the tournament after the defeat.
