Zulfiqar Ahmed, CEO of ColaNext, who was kidnapped in Karachi last week, safely returned to his home in Lahore on Sunday.
Earlier, police and his family’s lawyer confirmed that Ahmed had contacted his family and would be reunited with them shortly. “Zulfiqar Ahmed has spoken to his family in Lahore and will soon be home,” stated counsel Mian Ali Ashfaque on television. DIG South Asad Raza also affirmed the businessman’s imminent return.
Details about his abductors or his whereabouts during the kidnapping remain undisclosed.
Ahmed was abducted from Mauripur Road in Karachi on July 23, along with his friend Qaiser. The duo was taken at gunpoint by eight masked men in a double-cabin vehicle. Qaiser was released shortly after the incident.
On Thursday, in response to a petition for Ahmed’s recovery, the Sindh High Court issued notices to federal and provincial law officers, Sindh’s inspector general of police, and others. The petition, filed by Ahmed’s wife, Anber Zulfiqar, highlighted his prominence as a businessman and managing director of textile and oil companies.
According to the family, Ahmed and Qaiser were last seen on July 23 being abducted by gunmen on Mauripur Road.
Kalri police registered a first information report (FIR) against eight men allegedly involved in the kidnapping on Friday night.
