Chinese investors offer 14,000 buses for Karachi, interior Sindh

Chinese investors, under an ambitious transport  network plan, have offered the Sindh government to ply 14,000 modern buses in phases in Karachi and the interior of Sindh.

The offer was made by a Chinese delegation of well-known Chinese firm Norinco International which called on Sindh Minister for Transport Syed Nasir Hussain Shah at his office here, said a statement on Wednesday.

The minister said that Chinese investors’ keenness in transport sector is a source of encouragement as it illustrates confidence of foreign investors in government policies.

He said that foreign investors’ continued interest in the projects of the Sindh government would help strengthen economy at both the provincial and federal levels. It would also provide job opportunities that would usher in economic prosperity in the country.

The members of the Chinese delegation, included Wang, Zhang and Maz Yarong. While the Sindh Government representatives included Coordinator Assad Alam Niazi, Secretary Tallah Farooqui and Director Media Management to Minister Muhammad Shabbi Siddiqui.

The Chinese delegation expressed keen interest in making investment in various projects of the Sindh government, specially Brown Line project.

The delegation informed the minister that Norinco International wants to lay a network of communication to ply 14,000 most modern buses in the phases in Sindh province.

Wang informed that 4,000 buses would be run in Karachi and 10,000 buses in various districts of the interior of Sindh.

Besides, Norinco International plans to set up a technical institute in Karachi where youth would be imparted training of driving, mechanical/repairing and other transport related fields.

On a suggestion of the provincial minister, the Chinese delegation agreed to set up a plant for manufacturing of buses in Karachi.

Secretary Transport Tallah Farooqui briefed the Chinese delegation regarding on-going transport projects.

Earlier, the Chinese delegation had a detailed visit to the route of Brown Line Project. Director General Karachi Mass-Transit Assadullah briefed the delegation about the project.

The Brown Line route starts from Anda More, via Nagan Chowrangi, Shafiq More, Sohrab Goth, Gulshan Chowrangi, NIPA, up to Shahra-e-Faisal (Drig Road) Station. (AFP)
