Karachi is gearing up for the ICC Champions Trophy opening match on February 19, 2025. Traffic police have unveiled a detailed plan to ease travel for spectators and commuters.
The city hosts three matches of the eight-team tournament, starting with Pakistan versus New Zealand at the National Stadium.
The ICC Champions Trophy marks Pakistan’s first ICC event since the 1996 Cricket World Cup. It will run from February 19 to March 9, 2025, and span four cities: Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Dubai. Karachi’s National Stadium will host the opener at 2 PM PST, pitting defending champions Pakistan against New Zealand.
This ninth edition promises excitement. Recent upgrades to Pakistan’s venues—Gaddafi Stadium, National Stadium, and Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium—ensure top-notch facilities for fans and players alike.
Traffic Plan for ICC Champions Trophy Matches
Traffic police aim to manage crowds during the ICC Champions Trophy. Sir Shah Suleman Road stays open on match days, but heavy traffic faces restrictions on several routes. For example, roads from Karsaz to the stadium, Millennium to New Town, and Stadium Signal to Hassan Square will limit heavy vehicles.
Spectators can park at the National Coaching Centre, Expo Centre, and China Ground. Fans from Karsaz will use the flyover to reach these spots. Meanwhile, heavy vehicles can travel from Sohrab Goth to Nipa, Liaquatabad No 10 to Hassan Square, and PP Chowrangi to University Road.
Authorities urge fans to use designated parking for the ICC Champions Trophy. They advise against roads and service lanes. VIP vehicles and special pass holders can park inside the stadium via gate 8. Public entry uses the main gates and gates 4, 5, 6, 12, 13, and 14. CNG-equipped vehicles won’t enter the stadium.
The gates open three hours before the 2 p.m. start. Surrounding roads remain open for regular traffic, ensuring smooth flow.
