At least five people lost their lives, and 27 others sustained injuries after a passenger bus plunged into a ravine in the Dhok Pathan area of Chakwal district on Wednesday.

According to Rescue 1122, the bus was travelling from Islamabad to Karachi when the driver lost control near a sharp bend. The vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge.

Rescue teams reached the site soon after the crash and began relief operations. They pulled injured passengers from the wreckage and shifted them to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Officials confirmed that seven women were among the injured. Several victims remain in critical condition.

Road accidents involving passenger buses occur frequently in Pakistan. Common causes include speeding, driver fatigue, poor road conditions, and adverse weather.

In a similar incident in December 2025, at least 11 people died when a bus overturned on the M-14 Motorway near Fateh Jang. The victims belonged to Bahawalpur, Vehari, Sharaqpur, and Islamabad.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed deep sorrow over the Chakwal tragedy. She extended condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured.
