India’s Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a closure report, clearing actress Rhea Chakraborty, her family, and others of any involvement in the death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput. The CBI concluded that no evidence supports claims of abetment to suicide and recommended closing the case.
The closure report, submitted to the court on Friday, also absolves Sushant’s sister Priyanka, Rhea’s parents, her brother Showik Chakraborty, and a doctor named in a counter-FIR. This decision follows a lengthy investigation triggered by a complaint from Rajput’s father, who had accused Rhea and others of causing his son’s death.
In response to the news, Showik Chakraborty shared a video on Instagram showing him walking with Rhea. He captioned it, “Satyamev Jayate” (Truth alone triumphs), expressing relief and gratitude for the outcome.
Both Rhea and Showik faced arrest in 2020 by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) over separate drug-related allegations. However, these charges remain unrelated to the CBI’s investigation into Rajput’s death.
Sushant Singh Rajput, a talented actor known for his roles in films like MS Dhoni: The Untold Story and Kedarnath, tragically passed away on June 14, 2020, at 34. The Mumbai Police initially filed an Accidental Death Report (ADR), but his death sparked a media frenzy and multiple investigations, including those by the CBI and NCB.
The CBI’s closure report brings a significant development in the case, which has captivated public attention for over three years.
