TROY: An Ohio jury found former “American Idol” contestant Caleb Flynn guilty on Tuesday of murdering his wife, Ashley Flynn. Jurors deliberated for nearly two and a half hours.
Flynn, 40, faced trial at the Miami County Court of Common Pleas. The jury convicted him on all charges, including aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault and tampering with evidence.
Ashley Flynn, 37, died after a shooting at their home in Tipp City, north of Dayton, on February 16. Her husband called 911 and claimed an intruder had killed her. Police arrested him three days later.
Prosecutors argued that Flynn killed his wife to pursue a relationship with another woman and staged a break-in through the garage. They cited messages about ending his marriage, digital activity and evidence from the scene.
Assistant Prosecutor Matthew Joseph argued that device records contradicted Flynn’s account of sleeping before gunshots woke him.

Prosecutors also alleged that he removed security cameras before the shooting and tried to delete messages afterwards.
However, defence lawyer Patrick Mulligan challenged the circumstantial evidence. He argued that prosecutors had established an affair without proving who fired the shots.

No murder weapon was recovered. Mulligan also pointed to Flynn’s voluntary interviews with detectives and his consent to searches of his home and phone.
Flynn had pleaded not guilty. A police interview played in court showed him denying that he killed his wife. He did not testify, and the defence called no witnesses.
