Twenty three people were killed and 21 others injured when a bus fell into a 300-metre-deep gorge and plunged into river Baspa, near Ruturang village in Sangla valley of Kinnaur district, at 10.30 am yesterday morning. The bus was on way to Kalpa from Sangla.
The bus driver and conductor were among those killed. The seriously injured passengers were airlifted to Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMCH), Shimla.
Police said the steep incline made it difficult to carry the injured up to the road. Sources said the driver lost control over the bus near Ruturang village and it plunged into the river. The local people informed the police about the accident who then launched a rescue operation.
