Queen guitarist Sir Brian May criticised a Meta AI Queen image in an Instagram post. He urged Prime Minister Andy Burnham to block the construction of new UK data centres.
May published the post on August 11, according to his official website. He said he had asked Meta AI to display Queen’s 1980 album “The Game.”
The generated picture included five figures, although the original cover featured four band members. Reports said it also misrepresented May and late Queen singer Freddie Mercury.
The guitarist questioned the technology’s intelligence and wrote that society may not need AI. He then shifted his criticism towards the infrastructure supporting artificial intelligence.
May opposed further data-centre construction in the United Kingdom, citing environmental concerns. He asked Burnham to intervene “before it’s too late.”

Queen’s official store identifies “The Game” as the band’s eighth studio album. The record, released on June 30, 1980, topped charts in Britain and the United States.
May previously warned about artificial intelligence’s influence on music. In a 2023 interview with Guitar Player, he predicted major changes in human-led music creation.
