Brazil beat Japan 2-1 in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32 in Houston on Monday after Gabriel Martinelli scored in the 95th minute.
Japan led after 29 minutes when Kaishu Sano punished a Brazilian error and scored his first international goal.
Brazil equalised 11 minutes after half-time when Casemiro headed in a cross from Arsenal defender Gabriel.
Martinelli, an Arsenal winger, came off the bench and scored deep in stoppage time to send Brazil into the last 16.
Sky Sports also reported that Brazil advanced with a comeback win after Sano’s opener and Casemiro’s second-half equaliser.
Japan pushed for their first World Cup knockout win but could not hold out against late Brazilian pressure.
Vinicius Junior grew into the match after the equaliser and forced Japan goalkeeper Zion Suzuki into a save that deflected onto the post.
