The Punjab Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control (ET&NC) have provided temporary relief for car owners for biometrics due to a technical glitch in the system.
The relief is given till December 11, 2022; till such period, the government will add 177,000 outdated vehicle records. The government stated that these three months is a grace period for car registration and transfers.
ET&NC suspended biometric verification in September 2022 due to a technical glitch. A difference between the old and new automobile registration methods caused the system to malfunction.
The agency replaced its old manual system with a biometric one in 2022 but is having trouble integrating the old car data, causing delays.
