The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced revised central contracts on April 21, 2025. This update significantly boosts the earnings of India’s top cricketers as they prepare for the Indian Premier League (IPL) and compete for places in the T20 World Cup in 2026.

The contracts, divided into four grades, offer substantial retainers:

  • Grade A+: INR70 million (US$820,000) annually.
  • Grade A: INR50 million.
  • Grade B: INR30 million.
  • Grade C: INR10 million.

Players also earn match fees: INR1.5 million per Test, INR600,000 per ODI, and INR300,000 per T20I. Test specialists playing over 75% of India’s Test matches in a season receive an additional INR4.5 million per match.

With the T20 World Cup to be hosted in India in 2026, IPL performances are critical for national team selections. The revised contracts, excluding IPL match fees and bonuses, highlight the lucrative rewards in India’s cricket ecosystem, where top players rank among the world’s highest-paid athletes.

The BCCI’s move underscores the growing financial stakes in cricket, blending national duty with IPL’s global appeal.
