The Bangladesh election Jamaat accepts the result after earlier raising concerns about alleged irregularities in the vote count. The decision follows a landslide victory by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in the country’s first election since the 2024 uprising.
Jamaat-e-Islami chief Shafiqur Rahman initially signalled that he would seek redress from the Election Commission, citing inconsistencies and fabrications. However, he later conceded defeat and acknowledged the outcome.
“In any genuine democratic journey, the true test of leadership is not only how we campaign, but how we respond to the verdict of the people,” Rahman said in a statement. He added that his party respects the rule of law.
Bangladesh Election Jamaat Accepts Result After BNP Landslide
The Bangladesh election Jamaat accepts the result, which comes as Election Commission figures show the BNP alliance secured 212 seats. The Jamaat-led alliance won 77 seats.
Despite losing, Rahman highlighted the significant increase in his party’s parliamentary presence compared to previous elections. He described the result as a foundation rather than a setback.
Jamaat confirmed it will take its place in parliament and serve as a peaceful opposition. Rahman said the party would remain vigilant and hold the government accountable.
"A new turning point in crafting bilateral relations with India and Pakistan."

Meanwhile, interim leader Muhammad Yunus congratulated BNP leader Tarique Rahman on the victory. Yunus, who has served as chief adviser since the August 2024 uprising, indicated he would hand over power to the newly elected government.
He expressed hope that the incoming leadership would guide the country toward stability, inclusiveness, and development.
Political Transition and Opposition Role
The elections marked a pivotal moment in Bangladesh’s political landscape following months of unrest. The BNP’s decisive win signals a shift in parliamentary balance.
Jamaat leaders emphasised their commitment to principled and peaceful politics. Rahman said the party’s broader mission extends beyond a single election cycle and focuses on strengthening democratic culture and protecting citizens’ rights.
