QUETTA: A 4.8-magnitude Balochistan earthquake jolted Zhob and Chaman on Wednesday, August 12, the National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC) said.
The NSMC recorded the quake at a depth of 15 kilometres. Its epicentre was 122 kilometres northeast of Zhob.
No immediate casualties or property damage were reported following the tremors, according to initial reports.
The NSMC operates under the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), which monitors seismic activity and issues earthquake information across Pakistan.

A 5.9-magnitude earthquake previously affected Zhob, Chaman and other Balochistan districts on October 7, 2021. The quake’s epicentre was near Harnai at a depth of 15 kilometres.
That earthquake killed at least 20 people and injured more than 300. It also damaged over 70 houses, while aftershocks continued for several days.
Chaman also experienced tremors from a 5.4-magnitude earthquake in March 2024. Its epicentre was about 150 kilometres southwest of Quetta.
