Australia named their Australia Pakistan ODI squad on Monday, resting Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc for the upcoming white-ball tours of Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Cricket Australia selectors said the tours would test the team’s depth, with three potential debutants included across the squads. Mitchell Marsh will captain all squads for the Pakistan ODIs, Bangladesh ODIs and Bangladesh T20Is.
Australia will play three ODIs against Pakistan in Rawalpindi and Lahore from May 30 to June 4, before travelling to Dhaka for three ODIs against Bangladesh from June 9 to 14.
Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis were dropped after being part of Australia’s squad that exited the T20 World Cup at the group stage earlier this year.
All-rounder Liam Scott was named in both ODI squads, while Victoria batter Oliver Peake was included for the Pakistan series. T20 specialist Joel Davies was selected for the three-match T20I series in Chattogram starting June 17.
Selector George Bailey said the tours would give new players a chance to be part of the national team, adding that Australia had picked a mix of experienced, new and returning players for the subcontinent assignments.
Fast bowlers Billy Stanlake and Riley Meredith returned for the Pakistan ODIs, while spinner Tanveer Sangha was named in both 50-over squads. Meredith will also remain with the group for the Bangladesh T20Is.
Travis Head, Cooper Connolly, Ben Dwarshuis, and Xavier Bartlett will join for the Bangladesh ODIs after Indian Premier League commitments, replacing Peake, Stanlake, Meredith and Matt Short. Spencer Johnson and Aaron Hardie return for the T20 leg.
