TIBERIAS, Israel: Israeli police prosecutors indicted a 40-year-old West Bank resident over an ATM smashing spree involving 26 machines and an estimated 1.5 million Israeli new shekels in damage.

The Valleys Police District Prosecution Unit filed the indictment at Nazareth Magistrate’s Court, according to Ynet. The man faces multiple property-damage counts. Ynet published an Israel Police video with its Aug. 12 report.

Chief Inspector Adham Zoabi said cameras showed a man carrying a rock toward six Bank Leumi machines. The footage recorded the Tiberias incident at 4:22 a.m. on Aug. 3. Police arrested the suspect near the branch hours later.

Police linked the earliest case to two First International Bank machines in Hod Hasharon on July 19. Investigators also alleged damage at branches in Afula, Kfar Saba and Tiberias.

Zoabi said the suspect admitted damaging machines at four locations but gave no explanation. Police asked the court to keep him in custody through the proceedings.

Defence lawyer Jamal Zangeriya of the Public Defender’s Office said his client had “complex life circumstances” and would answer the indictment in court, according to the original Hebrew report.
