At least six people died and more than 20 injured in explosion in the oil containers at the ship-breaking yard.

Deputy General Secretary National Trade Union Federation Nasir Mansoor while talking to media said.“Over 200 workers are trapped inside the shipbreaking yard engulfed by flames,”

The fire erupted in a dismantled ship in the yard. Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Sanaullah Zehri has directed authorities to provide medical assistance to the injured.

The provincial administration has declared emergency across all government hospitals and asked the paramedical staff to remain alert in view of any emergency situation.

On October 20, National Trade Union Federation and a number of workers belonging to the ship breaking yard and others sectors had staged a protest outside Karachi Press Club demanding regularization and provision of health and safety facilities.

The demonstrators said that more than 20,000 workers were directly or indirectly associated with the ship breaking industry but they all were deprived of their basic rights. This is a sheer violation of labor rights, they maintained.
