GLASGOW: Arshad Nadeem qualified for the men’s javelin final at the 2026 Commonwealth Games on Thursday, placing seventh with a best throw of 78.63 metres.
Nadeem recorded his best distance with his opening attempt at EDF Scotstoun Stadium. He fouled his second throw before reaching 75.65 metres with his third.
None of the 18 competitors achieved the automatic qualification standard of 84 metres. The 12 athletes with the longest throws advanced to Friday’s final.
Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage led the qualification with 82.84 metres. Grenada’s Anderson Peters placed second with 81.29 metres, while South Africa’s Douw Smit finished third with 80.64 metres.

Pakistan’s Muhammad Yasir Sultan missed the final after placing 14th. He fouled his opening attempt before recording 71.42 metres and 74.36 metres.
The official Glasgow 2026 schedule places the final in Friday’s evening athletics session at Scotstoun Stadium.
Nadeem enters the final as defending champion. He won gold at Birmingham 2022 with a throw of 90.18 metres, which remains the Commonwealth Games record.
