Shortly after concluding his presidential term, Dr. Arif Alvi announced his willingness to undergo legal proceedings under Article 6 of the Constitution.
In an interaction with the media, Dr. Arif Alvi said that he was ready to face any investigations amidst calls for his trial for high treason, particularly related to the dissolution of the National Assembly upon advice from PTI’s founding chairman, Imran Khan, and failing to convene the upper house’s first session post-general election 2024.
Following the transition of presidential duties to Asif Ali Zardari, Alvi returned to Karachi and held a press conference at home. “I’m prepared for a case under Article 6,” he stated, addressing allegations of unconstitutional conduct. Alvi emphasized his adherence to democratic principles and the Constitution despite criticism.
He highlighted his efforts to ensure accountability and combat corruption, reflecting PTI’s stance. Alvi also mentioned his recommendation against dissolving the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and his role in reducing political disparities.
Praising Imran Khan, Alvi described him as an unparalleled leader and expressed his desire to meet Khan, who is currently detained. He concluded by urging for investigations into the May 9 violence and called for unity and recognition of PTI’s recent electoral mandate.
