Anna Sorokin, notorious for posing as a wealthy German heiress, will appear on “Dancing With the Stars” while she battles deportation. She was confirmed on Wednesday alongside former NBA star Dwight Howard, actor Tori Spelling, and Jenn Tran, fresh from a dramatic “Bachelorette” finale.
Dubbed a “notorious ankle bracelet fashionista” in a press release, Sorokin was introduced on “Good Morning America.” Despite her legal challenges, including house arrest since October 2022, the show has embraced her situation, featuring Sorokin in promotional materials adorned with a glittering dress and ankle monitor.
Released from prison in February 2021, Sorokin was detained by immigration authorities for overstaying her visa. She remained in ICE custody for over a year until a judge allowed home confinement while she contested her deportation to Germany.
Her spokesperson, Juda Engelmayer, noted that Sorokin can travel under house arrest within 70 miles of her New York City residence, but specifics on adjustments for filming were not disclosed.
Sorokin has kept busy despite restrictions, launching “The Anna Delvey Show” podcast. The podcast includes guests like comedian Whitney Cummings and journalist Taylor Lorenz, who visit her East Village apartment for recordings.
“Dancing With the Stars,” premiering September 17 on ABC and Disney+, marks Sorokin’s first major public endeavour since her legal troubles. She joins other contestants like Olympic gymnast Stephen Nedoroscik and rugby player Ilona Maher, known for her viral TikToks.
The season also features newcomers like Ezra Sosa, who became a professional dancer and paired with Sorokin. Artem Chigvintsev, facing recent charges, will not return this season.
Hosted by Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough, the show continues to attract a diverse cast of celebrities each season.
