PORTO CERVO, Italy: The £6.8 million Angiola II yacht sank off Sardinia on August 11, four days after delivery. All 14 guests and crew escaped without injury.

The 30-metre vessel capsized between Cappuccini Island and Capo Ferro on Sardinia’s Costa Smeralda, according to a UOL report.

A nearby boat rescued 12 occupants, UOL reported. The unnamed owner and another passenger waited for a La Maddalena Coast Guard patrol boat.

A $9.1 million luxury yacht sank in the Mediterranean Sea just 4 days after being delivered to its new owner.

Initial reports suggested that an engine failure caused a fire that damaged seals and allowed seawater to enter. Italian authorities have not confirmed the cause and continue investigating the sinking.

The New York Post reported authorities found no visible fuel leak and placed the wreck under surveillance. Officials were preparing a heavy pontoon for the salvage operation.
