Andrew Cross, the beloved YouTuber known as “Desert Drifter” to his 500,000 subscribers, died on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at age 36.

Andrew Cross’s family made the gut-wrenching call to remove him from life support after a devastating car accident in Colorado on January 31 left him with a severe brain injury. The death of Andrew Cross marks the end of a vibrant adventurer whose videos captivated fans worldwide.

Emergency brain surgery to stem cranial bleeding became necessary after a high-speed vehicle rear-ended the Virginia-born explorer while he was stopped at a light.

After nearly a month on life support with scant signs of recovery, doctors gave a bleak prognosis little hope of consciousness. “It’s not what Andrew would’ve wanted,” his sister Jenna Spooner wrote on CaringBridge, noting his peaceful passing amid loved ones. The decision followed weeks of anguish for his family, including wife Evelyn, who stood by him.

Cross’s channel chronicled desert treks and mountain ascents, spotlighting Native American history and the American West’s wild beauty. Tributes poured across social media, with one X user posting, “Thanks for showing me places I’ll never reach—see you in the stars.” The death of Andrew Cross has left a void among fans who cherish his authentic storytelling.

A GoFundMe for Evelyn raised over $482,000, reflecting the community’s outpouring of support. “We’re beyond grateful,” his family said, vowing his adventures will endure through his videos. Andrew Cross’s death stings, but his bold, curious, respectful spirit shines on.
