HENRICO, Virginia: Dozens of friends, relatives and classmates gathered for an Allan Taylor vigil on July 31, four days after the 13-year-old died following a community-pool emergency.
The gathering took place on Grammarcy Circle, where Taylor spent much of his time. Friends remembered him as someone who loved dancing, telling jokes and making people laugh, according to WWBT.
Taylor, known to friends and relatives as “Bug,” also had a quieter side. His father said the teenager listened carefully and always tried his best.
Henrico Police and fire crews responded to Richfield Place Apartments at about 3:45 pm EDT on July 27.
Officials found Taylor unresponsive after someone pulled him from the pool. Paramedics treated him and transported him to a hospital, where he later died.

The medical examiner had not determined the cause or manner of death. Henrico Police said the case remained under investigation.
Taylor’s aunt and legal guardian, Desire Dinkins, later called for lifeguards at community pools. She opposed “swim at your own risk” policies, according to WTVR CBS 6.
The family said it was planning a formal memorial service but had not released further details.
