Aleema Khan, sister of incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan, led a sit-in protest near Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail on Tuesday. The demonstration came after authorities denied her a meeting with the former prime minister for the second time.

The protest comes amid conflicting reports about access. Uzma Khan, another sister, met Imran Khan last week and stated he was “perfectly fine.” However, the federal government subsequently barred her from further visits. Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar cited alleged violations of prison rules, specifically “political discussions” during the meeting.

Aleema Khan made her way to the prison, accompanied by a large crowd of PTI supporters. In video statements, she accused the state of “breaking the law” while asserting the PTI’s actions were legal.

She highlighted that Imran Khan has not been allowed to meet his personal physician for 14 months, in contrast to the medical access granted to former PM Nawaz Sharif during his incarceration.

The protest march proceeded until Gorakhpur Market on Adiala Road, roughly one kilometre from the jail. There, riot police barricades stopped the procession. Aleema Khan sat at the barricade, delivering another statement in which she called the restrictions “unconstitutional and illegal” and alleged that Imran Khan was being kept in isolation.

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan also addressed reporters at the site. He urged authorities to allow meetings, stating it would “improve the situation.” He referenced a court order permitting their presence and an agreement for family and legal counsel access that was being ignored.

This incident is part of a pattern. The PTI has made multiple unsuccessful attempts to secure meetings. Last Thursday, KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi was denied a meeting for the ninth time.

The government has issued stern warnings. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar stated, “the gloves are off,” and promised strict action, including arrests, against anyone who creates a law-and-order situation outside the prison.
