The first glimpse of Ahad Raza Mir in his upcoming role in the BBC’s World on Fire has been revealed. In the second season of this wartime drama, Mir introduces a fresh character, Rajib. The show, highly acclaimed after its first season in 2019, is set to return with an ensemble cast.
Mir will portray the commanding and resolute leader of a specialist unit within the British Indian Army during World War II. In the revealed stills, he dons a uniform, exuding intensity into the lens. Some sources have suggested October 15 as the premiere date, but the broadcaster has yet to confirm.
Mir takes on a supporting role in World on Fire’s second season. He will share the screen with original cast members such as Lesley Manville, Jonah Hauer-King, Julia Brown, and Zofia Wichlacz.
Other new entrants to the cast include Mark Bonnar from Shetland, who will bring the enigmatic Sir James Danemere to life. Gregg Sulkin of Runaways fame will portray a daring yet reckless RAF pilot, and Miriam Schiweck (from Der Staatsanwalt) joins as a teenage German member of the Band of German Maidens.
The second season’s six episodes are set to depict RAF pilots attempting to obliterate German bombers over Manchester, with rescue missions occurring on the streets below, illustrating the harsh reality of war in Britain. The BBC has also disclosed that the new season will transport viewers from Britain’s ravaged streets deep into Nazi Germany, the resistance in occupied France, and the harsh sands of the North African desert where troops grapple with a distinct type of warfare.
