Pakistan’s military conducted a successful training launch of the Abdali Weapon System, a surface-to-surface missile with a 450-kilometre range, on Saturday.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the test, part of “Ex Indus,” validated the missile’s advanced navigation and manoeuvrability. Amid escalating tensions with India following the Pahalgam attack, this launch underscores Pakistan’s commitment to robust defence capabilities.

The ISPR stated that the launch aimed to ensure troop readiness and verify technical parameters, including the missile’s cutting-edge navigation system. Senior officials, including the Army Strategic Forces Command (AFSC) commander, alongside Strategic Plans Division representatives, scientists, and engineers, observed the test.

Context of Pakistan-India Tensions

The test follows heightened tensions after the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam attack in Indian-occupied Kashmir, which killed 26 people. India, without evidence, suggested Pakistan’s involvement, prompting punitive measures like border closures. Pakistan denied the allegations, advocating for a neutral investigation. Since April 25, shelling across the Line of Control (LoC) has intensified, with Pakistan’s army, led by COAS General Asim Munir, vowing a “swift, resolute” response to any Indian aggression.

Pakistan successfully tested the Abdali surface-to-surface ballistic missile with a 450-km range on Saturday as part of ‘Exercise INDUS’, according to local media.

The nation’s strategic forces stand ready, ensuring a robust defence in a volatile region.
