LAHORE: A family court has granted khula to Mehnaz, wife of Pakistani actor Moammar Rana, after she petitioned to dissolve their 28-year marriage.
Family Court Judge Zahid Bashir issued the decree after hearing arguments from Mehnaz’s lawyer, Khadija Siddiqui.
In her petition, Mehnaz alleged that Rana subjected her to physical and verbal abuse, particularly after consuming alcohol. She claimed that he repeatedly used abusive language in front of their daughters, causing them emotional distress. She further alleged that the actor failed to contribute towards household expenses.
According to the application, family members had attempted to address his behaviour on several occasions. Mehnaz claimed those efforts did not improve the situation and that Rana refused to seek treatment.
She maintained that she was no longer willing to continue living with him and asked the court to dissolve the marriage through khula.

The allegations were presented as grounds for her petition. Available reporting does not establish separate judicial findings on each claim.
Earlier this month, Rana had publicly expressed hope that the marriage could be saved. During a podcast appearance, he acknowledged signing documents in court but said he did not know precisely what they were.
“I do not want to end my relationship with my family,” he said.
Those remarks preceded the decree and were not a direct response to the allegations now reported from Mehnaz’s application.
Rana also asked for privacy during that earlier discussion, explaining that he loved his family and did not want to speak extensively about their personal circumstances. The petition gives the couple’s wedding date as October 24, 1998. They have two daughters.
