Peshawar cops recovered 63 kilograms of heroin and 715kg hashish besides rescuing six captives and arresting 12 alleged kidnappers during the last almost five months, officials said on Sunday.

Authorities have declared more than 132 points in the Hayatabad subdivision located on the boundary with Khyber Agency, as vulnerable. Apart from Hayatabad, areas under the jurisdiction of two other police stations, Sarband and Pishtakhara were attacked by militants many times in the last few years, they added.

“During search and strike operations in the area, we have recovered 28 AK-47, 19 other rifles and 215 pistols since May. Besides, huge quantity of explosives and drugs (sic) was also recovered,” stated Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Hayatabad Syed Atiq Shah while speaking to reporters.

Shah said that 22 search and strike operations were carried out in limits of four police stations of the subdivision and hundreds of proclaimed offenders, those violating the security ordinance, illegally residing foreigners and a number of other suspects were arrested.

“Security in the areas close to the boundary with Khyber Agency was increased with more deployment and increased patrolling,” said Atiq Shah.

He added that the police was keeping an eye on suspects coming from the tribal areas as well as others living in the area.

The SDPO also said that a number of attempts to smuggle weapons, drugs and other contrabands had been foiled and the accused arrested.

These included at least 18 non-custom paid cars, over 600 cellular phones, tyres, cosmetics, etc.

The official added that a well equipped reporting room had been set up in the Hayatabad Police Station where polite, educated and trained staff have been posted to receive complainants and other visitors in cordial and respectable manner.

The official added that security had been increased at entry and exit points of Hayatabad to avoid any sabotage bid.
