“The highly anticipated  participation of at least 50 foreign companies in the upcoming China Agro Chemical (CAC) Summit in Lahore shows their interest in the agricultural potential of Pakistan”, said Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President Sheikh Muhammad Arshad.

The summit, scheduled to be held on May 9 and 10 in Lahore, is expected to be attended by representatives of Indian, Chinese, Iranian and Egyptian companies.

“This would add another chapter of success to the history of international exhibitions in Pakistan as around 43 Chinese companies are participating in this exhibition to showcase state-of-the-art technologies and solutions to improve productivity of agro-based commodities and keep crops free of hazards,” said Arshad at a press conference on Friday.

Apart from the foreign firms, leading groups and companies of Pakistan associated with different sub-sectors of agriculture have agreed on taking part in the summit.

The participating companies will display their range of products on around 60 stalls for the visiting importers, distributors and farmers from Pakistan and neighbouring countries.

“Pakistan is an agrarian economy but we lag far behind in terms of adopting the desired level of knowledge and ways to combat potential threats to our food and cash crops,” Arshad said.

The LCCI president said the summit would promote the use of modern technologies developed over a period of time through research and development work in the field of agriculture.

It will provide a joint forum to government officials and industry professionals to highlight the benefits of using pesticides, fertilisers, processed seeds, latest and affordable agro-equipment and machinery.

There is immense potential for agro-chemicals in Pakistan which must be used on a priority basis. They have contributed significantly to boosting the agricultural yield with a lot of room for improvement in the sector.

“We are very glad to coordinate with CAC that sets up the world’s largest agro-chemical trading platform in China every year with the most updated policies, products, technologies and market dynamics,” Arshad said.

He said CAC had broadened its network by exhibiting in Europe and Brazil among other important destinations of the world and it was for the first time that it was hosting an event in South Asia.

Arshad stressed they would make all efforts to make the show successful and voiced hope that Pakistan’s agriculture sector would grow further.
