In a remarkable achievement, 43 researchers from Pakistan’s National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST) have been ranked among the world’s top 2% of scientists, according to a 2024 Stanford University and Elsevier report.

This recognition underscores NUST’s growing contributions to fields such as artificial intelligence, engineering, and cybersecurity.

The ranking positions NUST researchers among the global top 100,000 scientists, indicating the university’s progressive ascent in international research standings.

According to QS University Rankings, NUST currently ranks 353rd worldwide and 64th in Asia, marking it as a forefront institution in Pakistan’s higher education sector.

The success follows an upward trajectory in NUST’s representation among the world’s elite researchers, with numbers increasing from 9 in 2021 to 23 in 2022 and 31 in 2023.

Stanford University and Elsevier compile the ranking data using a composite index based on bibliometric factors such as citation counts, the Hirsch index (which measures productivity and impact), and authorship position citations.

The 43 recognized NUST scientists specialize in various disciplines, including artificial intelligence, materials science, and biomedical research.

Notably, 23 of these scientists have consistently appeared in the top 2% category over multiple years.
