Chinese authorities executed Xu Yao in the “3 Body Problem” poisoning case after his conviction for killing Yoozoo Games founder Lin Qi, state media reported.
Lin, a billionaire gaming executive, helped bring Liu Cixin’s “The Three-Body Problem” trilogy to Netflix. The streamer released “3 Body Problem” in 2024.
Xu, a former Yoozoo executive, poisoned Lin in 2020 after a dispute over company management, according to court findings cited by Chinese media.
Lin fell ill in December 2020 and died on Christmas Day at age 39. Four other colleagues were also poisoned but survived.

The Shanghai First Intermediate People’s Court convicted Xu of murder and attempted murder in 2024. Chinese media said authorities carried out the execution on May 21, 2026.
Three Body Universe said on Weibo that employees were grateful for justice served.
