Amidst rising electricity and fuel costs, WASA has taken the step of hiking its tariffs by a staggering 175% to counteract its budget shortfall.
As detailed in a recent notification, commercial consumers will experience a 500% tariff surge, while domestic users face a 175% increase. This adjustment will affect consumers in cities including Lahore, Multan, Gujranwala, and Rawalpindi.
This is the first tariff revision since 2009 when electricity was priced at Rs6 per unit. With the current electricity rate at Rs60 per unit, insiders suggested that WASA’s tariff revision was an expected move.
