A senior police officer of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa police was murdered in Salim Khan area of Swabi, militants claimed earlier yesterday.
Superintendent Police of the Elite Force Khairul Haseeb was heading home after offering morning prayers when gunmen riding on a motorcyle waylaid him and sprayed his vehicles with indiscriminate gunfire.
Haseeb was a retired major having served in the army. He had been posted to Bannu, but had returned to his hometown to celebrate Eidul Fitr with his family.
The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for the attack.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif strongly condemned the attack on SP Haseeb.
He offered his condolences to the slain police official’s family and expressed the government’s resolve to ‘eliminate the menace of terrorism and extremism from the country’.
