Overseas Pakistani workers remitted $14.33 billion in the first 11 months (July- May) of the current fiscal year, a growth of 12.37 per cent compared with $12.755bn in the same period a year earlier, said an SBP press release on Wednesday.
The inflow of remittances in July- May FY2013-14 from Saudi Arabia, UAE, the US, the UK, GCC countries (including Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Oman), and European Union (EU) countries amounted to $4.257bn, $2.813bn, $2.242bn, $1.979bn, $1.691bn and $394.37 million respectively, compared with $3.751bn, $2.532bn, $2.006bn, $1.774bn, $1.469bn and $326.34m last year.
Remittances received from Norway, Switzerland, Australia, Canada, Japan and other countries during the period were $954.77m as against $895.86m received in the first eleven months of last fiscal year.
In May 2014, the inflow of remittances from Saudi Arabia, UAE, the US, the UK, GCC countries (including Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Oman), and EU countries amounted to $451.14m, $290.91m, $214.74m, $181.04m, $164.01m and $39.06m, compared with $379.96m, $219.56m, $186.43m, $162.96m, $138.03m and $28.65m.
