Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shaharyar Khan on Tuesday announced that Misbah ul Haq would play in the World Cup as the captain of the team.
“Misbah’s performance is very good, he has broken world records against teams such as Australia. He has always played,” he said firmly.
The PCB chairman, while addressing the media at the Women’s Cricket Championship in Lahore, also spoke about the suspect bowling action of all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez and spinner Saeed Ajmal.
“We want both of them to play in the World Cup,” Khan said. “They are going to Chennai, where both of them will undergo informal testing.”
He added that the PCB was hopeful of the two cricketers undergoing a formal test by the ICC as well.
“I am hopeful that they will pass the formal test, and when they pass, they will most definitely play [in the World Cup],” Khan said.
In response to a question regarding Shahid Afridi’s retirement, Khan said, “It is Shahid Afridi’s own decision [to retire]. It does not affect the World Cup.”
