Lahore : Pakistan Muslim League (PML) senior central leader Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, while expressing his sympathies with flood affected people, has asked the government to start construction of Kalabagh Dam to store rainwater to avoid floods in the future.

In a statement issued today, he said that the construction of Kalabagh Dam was a must and a permanent solution to not only overcome electricity crisis and water shortages for irrigation but also for storing rainwater to controlling floods.
He said that the rulers have not done anything to control floods while leaving people in Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rahim Yar Khan Sadiqbad, Alipur and other areas at the mercy of flash floods.

Elahi said that floods have caused a loss of $30 billion to the national chequer in the last four years and had the Kalabag Dam been constructed the loss could have been avoided.
