Pakistan is making its third attempt to enter the Oscars race this year. Jami Mahmood’s poignant drama Moor has been sent for consideration in the Best Film in a Foreign Language category.

The final list of submissions to the category was released today, which revealed that Moor is up against 80 other films in the race.

The 81 foreign-language submissions will be reduced to a shortlist of nine, and then narrowed down to five finalists.

From the South Asian region, submissions include India’s Marathi legal drama Court, Jalal’s Story from Bangladesh, Nepal’s Talakjung vs Tulke and Afghanistan’s Utopia.

Our other neighbors are sending Go Away Mr. Tumor (China), Muhammad: The Messenger of God (Iran) and Memories on Stone (Iraq).

Nominations for next year’s Oscars will be announced on January 14, and the ceremony will take place on February 28 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, and will be televised live in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide.
