Islamabad: Pakistan’s proud golfer Hamza Amin, son of former Pakistan star golfer Taimoor Hassan, becomes the only Pakistani to qualify for the golf’s highly prestigious Asia-Oceania Circle which makes him eligible to participate in Australian Open Golf Championship to be held in November this year. Hamza, 27, said: “I played in the qualifiers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in February this year, in which 150 golfers were participating and only 10 spots were on offer for the Asia-Oceania Circle. I managed to grab eighth position, thus by the grace of God and prayers of my parents and people of my country, I was able to achieve this unique feat, which no one in the history of Pakistan had achieved. Now I have earned the right of playing in 10 major tournaments including Australian Open, Korean Open, Japan Open and other major events. I would be leaving for South Korea to play in the Korean Open starting there from May 14 to 17.”
He said he had been playing golf for the last 17 years. “My dad Taimoor coached me for 12 to 14 years then I joined USA coach Pat Mcguire, as it was an urgent need to hire a professional coach to fulfil my ambitions. I had always dreamt since watching my dad in early days to represent my country in international events and win laurels for it.” Hamza earned seventh slot in the Asian qualifying round in which world’s top 758 golfers were in action. “I turned professional in 2012 and since then playing golf. I have represented the country in two World Cups and one Asian Championship.” Hamza requested the federal government and multinationals to lend a helping hand and sponsor himfor winning laurels for the country. “I will not let them down and soon start giving better results,” he added. When asked about how many tournaments were required to jump in international rankings, Hamza replied: “If I play well in next two or three events, I will certainly break into top golfers list. I have decided to appear in seven tournaments this year, which will boost my international rankings.”
