A 6.2-magnitude quake struck off the Indonesian island of Sumatra earlier today.
The US Geological Survey said the quake hit at a depth of nine kilometres (six miles), just over 300 kilometres west of the coastal city of Banda Aceh. The quake occurred at around 7:00 am (0100 GMT), USGS said.
Indonesia sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire” where continental plates collide, causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
